The Complete Cavapoo Knowledge Hub
Everything you need to know about Cavapoos — temperament, size, coat, health, care, and adoption — from a health-testing, family-run breeder in Alabama.
What Is a Cavapoo?
A Cavapoo (or Cavoodle) is a designer crossbreed between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. By blending the Cavalier's sweet, affectionate nature with the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat, breeders created a small, friendly, allergy-friendly companion that excels as a family dog. Cavapoos typically weigh 10–18 pounds, live 12–15 years, and adapt well to apartments and homes alike.
Cavapoo Traits at a Glance
Temperament
Affectionate, gentle, eager to please, and people-focused. Cavapoos form deep bonds and thrive on companionship.
Intelligence
Poodle smarts make Cavapoos quick learners who enjoy training, puzzles, and interactive games.
Family-Friendly
Patient and trustworthy with children, and adaptable to other pets when socialized early.
Low-Shedding Coat
Soft curly or wavy coats shed little — a plus for tidier homes and many allergy-sensitive families.
Cavapoo Care & Health
Health Testing & Genetics
At Cedar Wood Farms, every parent dog is DNA tested for breed-relevant genetic conditions and receives full health clearances (OFA, cardiac, patella) before entering our breeding program. We breed for health and temperament first — never for volume. Each puppy goes home with a written genetic health guarantee, veterinary exam records, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip.
About Our Health StandardsGrooming & Coat Care
Cavapoos need brushing several times a week to prevent matting and a professional trim every 6–8 weeks. Their low-shedding coat still requires consistent care. Bathe as needed, clean ears weekly, and brush teeth regularly. See our full grooming guide for a step-by-step routine.
Grooming & Care GuideFeeding & Nutrition
Feed a high-quality, age-appropriate puppy food and transition to adult food around 10–12 months. Portion by weight and activity level. We send each puppy home on the food they're eating to ease the transition and will share our current feeding schedule at pickup.
Training & Socialization
Cavapoos are highly trainable thanks to their intelligence and eagerness to please. Start positive-reinforcement training early, prioritize socialization during the 8–16 week window, and use crate training to build confidence. Consistency and patience go a long way.
Puppy Care GuideExercise Needs
Cavapoos need moderate exercise — a daily walk plus playtime. They're equally happy in an apartment or a home with a yard as long as their need for companionship and activity is met. Mental enrichment matters as much as physical exercise.
Lifespan & Wellness
Cavapoos typically live 12–15 years. Annual vet exams, dental care, a balanced diet, regular exercise, and a loving home support a long, healthy life. We provide vaccination and deworming records for every puppy.
