We Breed Both — So This Is Honest
Because we raise both Cavapoos and Mini Bernedoodles here at Cedar Wood Farms, we can give you a genuine side-by-side rather than a sales pitch. Both are wonderful, low-shedding family dogs — but they suit different families and lifestyles.
Size & Weight
Cavapoos are the smaller of the two, typically maturing to 10–18 pounds and 9–14 inches tall. Mini Bernedoodles are sturdier, usually 15–35 pounds and 12–22 inches tall. If you want a dog you can easily carry or one that fits comfortably in an apartment, the Cavapoo's smaller size is a real advantage. If you want a more substantial, sturdy playmate for active kids, the Mini Bernedoodle shines.
Coat & Grooming
Both breeds have low-shedding, allergy-friendly coats, but the Bernedoodle typically has more coat overall. Expect a bit more frequent brushing and grooming with a Mini Bernedoodle. Cavapoos need moderate brushing a few times a week and a professional trim every 6–8 weeks; Bernedoodles lean toward 3–4 brushes a week with the same trim schedule.
Temperament
Cavapoos are sweet, gentle, and eager to please — true lap dogs that bond deeply and want to be wherever you are. Mini Bernedoodles are loyal, a little goofier, and highly intelligent, often with a touch more independence and a brief stubborn streak as young puppies before settling into eager learners.
Energy & Activity Level
Cavapoos are moderate energy — happy with a walk and a play session, then ready to nap on your lap. Mini Bernedoodles are moderate-to-high energy and genuinely enjoy having a job or a good daily run. Both need daily exercise, but the Bernedoodle will ask for a bit more.
Which Family Is the Better Fit
Choose a Cavapoo if you value a smaller, calmer, deeply affectionate companion and have a smaller home or apartment. Choose a Mini Bernedoodle if you have a bit more space, an active family, and love the striking tri-color look. Either way, individual temperament matters as much as breed — and we'll help you find the right match.
